Mahogany
The Mahogany tree (Swietenia species) is a majestic hardwood native to tropical regions of the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Renowned for its straight-grained, reddish-brown timber, mahogany is prized for its beauty, strength, and workability. The tree can grow up to 150 feet tall and is valued not only for its wood but also for its ecological contributions, providing habitat and shade in tropical forests. Due to overharvesting and deforestation, some mahogany species, like Swietenia macrophylla (Honduran mahogany), are now protected under international conservation agreements to ensure sustainable use.
This African Mahogany piece was inspired by the God’s Eye design found in the artwork of the Huichol and Central American peoples. Considered a sacred object, the design symbolizes the deity's ability to observe and protect, representing divine watchfulness over humanity. It also embodies the spirit of intention.
